Olaplex? What's that?

I know. You're already thinking to yourself, "Wtf even is Olaplex?"

Olaplex is that stuff that I always suggest when you're getting fashion colors (aka: Unicorn Hair), when your hair goal is some kind of blonde, or when your hair is already damaged when you come in looking for a new color service.

I tell you about it in a really simple way: it's a product added to your color or lightener that helps to keep your hair strong and healthy by putting broken internal bonds back together like rebuilding the broken rungs of a ladder.

But today I'm going to get nerdy with ya.🤓

If you’ve ever wondered what Olaplex is or what it really does for your hair, you're in the right place!

During chemical processes (and even everyday life things like blow drying, curling, flat ironing, or brushing your hair) there are disulfide bonds that get broken in the internal structure of your hair on a molecular level. When disulfide bonds get broken the single sulfur hydrogen bond pairs with oxygen and when it bonds with too much oxygen it can create cysteic acid.

Cysteic acid will eat the protein out of your hair, weakening it and causing breakage. 😬

Olaplex will help prevent this damaging process by bonding with those single sulfur hydrogen molecules first.

It’s not an end all be all to ending damage, but when combined with proper knowledge and professional judgment can:

  • Help your color last longer

  • Keep your hair healthier and stronger

  • Lessen porosity issues which means your hair will be less dry/brittle

  • Increase shine

That's why I'm adding it into every lightening service, every time.

You know me, I'm always doing what I can to take the absolute best care of your hair. So this feels like a natural decision for both of us.

I get to help you make great decisions for the health of your hair and you get shinier, stronger, healthier hair. It's an absolute win-win kind of situation. 😉

That's it for today's hair chemistry lesson. Let me know if you like hearing about this stuff!
